🚀 Getting Started

How do I create an account?

+

Click "Join Community" at the top of any page and fill out the registration form. You'll need to provide basic information and complete your paddling profile to get the most out of PaddleMatch. After submitting, check your email for a confirmation link.

What information should I include in my profile?

+

Complete profiles get better matches! Include your skill level, equipment types, average paddling speed, preferred trip distances, and availability. The more accurate your profile, the better your PaddleMatch suggestions will be.

Is PaddleLoco free to use?

+

Yes! PaddleLoco is completely free for all community members. We're supported by our passionate volunteer community and believe that connecting paddlers shouldn't cost money.

Can I use PaddleLoco if I'm a beginner?

+

Absolutely! We welcome paddlers of all skill levels. Many of our locations are perfect for beginners, and our community is very supportive of new paddlers. Set your skill level to "Beginner" in your profile to connect with patient, experienced paddlers.

🤝 PaddleMatch

How does PaddleMatch work?

+

PaddleMatch uses your profile information to suggest compatible paddling partners. It considers your skill level, equipment type, preferred pace, and location preferences to find paddlers who would be good matches for group trips or buddy paddling.

Why am I not getting many match suggestions?

+

Make sure your profile is complete and that you've enabled "Open to PaddleMatch" in your settings. Also, try expanding your preferences slightly - being open to different skill levels or equipment types can increase your matches.

How do I contact a potential paddle partner?

+

When you see a compatible paddler, you can message them through our community forums or use their preferred contact method listed in their profile (email, phone, or forum messages).

Can I organize group paddles?

+

Yes! Use our community forums to post about group paddle opportunities. Many members organize regular group outings for paddlers of similar skill levels or interests.

📍 Paddling Locations

How do I add a new paddling location?

+

Registered users can submit new locations through the "Add Location" button on the Locations page. All submissions require admin approval to ensure quality and accuracy. Include detailed information about access, difficulty, facilities, and safety considerations.

How accurate is the weather information?

+

We pull weather data from Environment Canada stations near each location, updated every few hours. Always check current conditions before heading out, as weather can change quickly on the water.

Can I add photos to existing locations?

+

Yes! Registered users can contribute photos to location galleries. All photos are reviewed before publication to ensure they're appropriate and relevant to the location.

What information should I include when adding a location?

+

Include location description, difficulty level, access points, parking information, facilities available, GPS coordinates, safety considerations, and any restrictions or permits required. The more detailed, the better!

👤 Profile Management

How do I edit my profile?

+

After logging in, click on your name in the top right corner and select "My Profile" to edit your information, preferences, and privacy settings.

Can I control who sees my contact information?

+

Yes! You can choose whether to show your phone number and email to other members, or keep communication through the forum system only. You can also disable PaddleMatch suggestions entirely if you prefer.

How do I change my password?

+

Go to your profile settings and look for the "Change Password" section. You'll need to enter your current password and then your new password twice to confirm.

Can I delete my account?

+

Yes, you can delete your account from your profile settings. This will remove all your personal information, but any location contributions or forum posts may remain (anonymized) for community benefit.

🛡️ Safety & Community Guidelines

What should I do if I feel unsafe with a paddle partner?

+

Trust your instincts. End the trip early if needed, stay with other paddlers if possible, and report the issue to our admin team. We take safety seriously and will investigate any reports of inappropriate behavior.

How do I report inappropriate behavior?

+

Use our report form or email us directly at safety@paddleloco.ca. All reports are taken seriously and investigated promptly. You can report anonymously if preferred.

What are the community guidelines?

+

Be respectful, inclusive, and supportive. No harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate content. Focus discussions on paddling and outdoor activities. Follow Leave No Trace principles and promote safety.

Should I meet new paddling partners in person first?

+

We recommend meeting in a public place first or joining a group paddle before one-on-one trips. Always let someone know your plans, carry communication devices, and trust your instincts about people you meet online.
